Repeal and

section 3.

(6) by deleting the semicolon at the end of the definition of

"general holiday" and substituting a full stop; and

(c) by deleting the definition of "school holiday".

Section 3 of the principal Ordinance is repealed and replaced by the following-

"General

holidays.

3. The following days shall be genera)

holidays...

(a) every Sunday:

(b) the first week-day in January;

(c) Chinese New Year's Day;

(d) the second day of Chinese New Year: (e) the third day of Chinese New Year:

(f) in a year in which Chinese New Year's Day or the second day of Chinese New Year of the third day of Chinese New Year is a Sunday, the fourth day of Chinese New Year:

(g) Ching Ming (MW) Festival (or if that day should be a Sunday then the following day) unless it shall be ordered by the Governor, by order published in the Gazette, that some other day shall be a general holiday in lieu thereof, and then, such other day:

(h) Good Friday:

the day following Good Friday: (1) Easter Monday:

(4) the Birthday of Her Majesty the Queen, unless it shall be ordered by the Governor. by order published in the Gazette, that Her Majesty's Birthday is to be kept on some other day, and then, such other day:

(D) Tuen Ng (F, Dragon Boat) Festival, or if that day should be a Sunday then the following day:

(n) the first week-day in July;

(a) the first Monday in August;

(0) the last Monday in August, which shall be

Liberation Day:

(p) the day following the Chinese Mid-Autuma

(##) Festival Day for if that day should be a Sunday then the following day) unless

it shall be ordered by the Governor, by order published in the Gazette, that some other day shall be a general holiday in lieu thereof, and then, such other day;

(9) Chung Yeung (#B) Festival (or if that day should be a Sunday then the following day) unless it shall be ordered by the Governor. by order published in the Gazerte, that some other day shall be a general holiday in lieu thereof, and then, such other day.

(C) Christmas Day;

(s) the first week-day after Christmas Day: (1) in a year in which Christmas Day is a Sunday the second weck-day after Christmas Day.".

5. Section 4 of the principal Ordinance is repealed.

6. Section 5 of the principal Ordinance is repealed and replaced by the following-

5. (1) Anything in this Ordinance or any other law to the contrary norwithstanding, the head of any Government department may, if in his opinion the interests of the public service or the convenience of the public so require, open and operate any of the offices and works thereof an a general holiday and require any of the persons serving in his department to perform any of their duties and functions on a general holiday.

(2) Anything in this Ordinance or any other law to the contrary notwithstanding, the Chief Justice may direct that any court or any of the offices of any court shall be open on a general holiday for the transaction of such business as the Chief Justice may think fit and may require any of the persons serving in any such court or office to perform any of their duties and functions on a general holiday.".

7. Section 7 of the principal Ordinance is amended by deleting "It shall be lawful for the Governor in Council by notification in the Gazette to" and substituting the following-

"The Legislative Council may by resolution",

Repeal of section 4.

Repeal and replacement of section 5.

Amendment of section 7.
