QUESTIONS.
(1) Mr. Too Pak-chuen, pursuant to notice, will sak the following
queations :-
(1) What steps has Government taken with regard to
the accumulation of refuse in the streets thereby endangering the public health of tha Colony? (iia) Is Government aware of the large number of
illegal off-course bettings in Hong Kong? (lib) Is it impossible to suppress them, and (ii) If the answers to (a) and (b) are in the
affirmative, will Government take steps to legilise off-course bettings and put the same under proper control sa in Englandi
(2) Mr. Szeto Wai, pursuant to notice, will ask the following
questions -
(la) The wae of bamboo scaffolding in building
construction in the Dolany has from past experience proved to be unsatisfactory and a source of danger in times of typhoons, resulting in injury and loss of life, damage to property and blockage of roads, In view of the intensive building activities going on at present involving the construction of many tall buildings, would Government consider limiting the height of such scaffolding or its we omly to building sites not abutting roads with heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic?
(b) The present Building Regulations only require
hoardings and covered walkways to be erected at construction sites abutting public roads with little additional means of protection to pedestrians and vehicles from debris falling from great heights which can be a source of danger. Would Government consider introducing stricter measures requiring the provision of protective screens such as wire-netting and canvas for all new building works in progress" This additional measure, apart from effectively abating danger and dust nuisance, will improve the appearance and cleanliness of the streets.
