LEGAL PRACTITIONERS ORDINANCE, 1964. (No. 16 of 1964).

ADMISSION AND REGISTRATION RULES, 1964.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 72 of the Legal Practitioners Ordinance, 1964 the Chief Justice has made the following rules-

CITATION, COMMENCEMENT AND INTERPRETATION.

These rules may be cited as the Admission and Registration Rules, 1964, and shall come into operation on the day appointed far (16 of 1964), the commencement of section 72 of the Legal Practitioners Ordinance,

2. In these rules, unless the context otherwise requires—

"articles" includes new articles, further articles, assigned articles and

supplementary articles; and

"prescribed fee" means the fee prescribed by rules made under section

72 of the Ordinance.

(6) in the case of a person seeking admission by virtue of sub- paragraph (ii) of that paragraph, shall be not less than six weeks.

(b) in the case of a person seeking admission by virtue of sub- paragraph (1) of paragraph (a) of subsection (1) of section 4

of the Ordinance and not by virtue of rule 20 of the Students Rules, 1964-

PART II.

SOLICITORS.

3. (1) Any person seeking to be admitted as a solicitor in accordance with the provisions of section 4 of the Ordinance shall give to the Society notice in accordance with Form 1 in the Schedule and shall pay to the Society the prescribed fee.

(2) The Society, if it is satisfied that a person applying in accord- ance with paragraph (1) is entitled thereto, shall issue to him a certifi- cate in accordance with Form 2 in the Schedule in the case of an application under sub-paragraph (1) of paragraph (a) of subsection (1) of section 4 of the Ordinance or in accordance with Form 3 in the Schedule in the case of an application under sub-paragraph (ii) of thal paragraph.

4. (1) The person seeking to be admitted as a solicitor shall then file with the Registrar a motion paper to move the Court on such date as shall be fixed by the Registrar which-

(a) in the case of a person seeking admission by virtue of sub- paragraph (i) of paragraph (a) of subsection (1) of section 4 of the Ordinance, shall be not less than fourteen clear days; and

(i) a declaration as to service under articles in accordance with Form 4 in the Schedule; and

(c) in the case of a person seeking admission by virtue of sub- paragraph (ii) of paragraph (2) of subsection (1) of section 4 of the Ordinance—

(i) his certificate of admission;

(ii) a certificate from the proper authority issuing such certificate for admission that the certificate of admission is still valid and in force;

(iii) a statutory declaration as to fitness and character made by two practising barristers or solicitors, or by one practising barrister and one practising solicitor, of at least five years standing in one of the courts in Great Britain or Norther Ireland; and

(iv) an affidavit of identity in accordance with Form 5 in Schedule, the Schedule completed by an officer of the Court.

(3) A copy of the motion paper referred to in paragraph (1) and of every document accompanying the motion paper in accordance with paragraph (2) shall be served on the Attorney General by the person seeking to be admitted not less than fourteen days before the date when the Court is to be moved.
