27. Upon the commencement of this Ordinance, the Chung Chi College Incorporation Ordinance, 1955, the Board of Trustees of The United College of Hong Kong Incorporation Ordinance, 1957, and the Memorandum and Articles of Association of the New Asia College (29 of 1955), shall have effect only in so far as the provisions thereof are not in con-
flict with or inconsistent with the provisions of this Ordinance,

Schedule.
28. The Governor shall appoint the first Vice-Chancellor and the first Pro-Vice-Chancellor.
29, The Statutes in the Sebedule shall be of effect from the com- mencement of this Ordinance for a period of twenty-four months or until they are replaced by Statutes made under section 20, whichever period is the shorter, as though they had been made under section 20.
SCHEDULE.
STATUTE 1.
Interpretation.
[ 29.]
In these Statutes, poless the context otherwise requires— "Ordinance" means the Chinese University of Hong Kong Ordinance, 1963,
STATUTE 2.
Congregations,
1. The time, place and procedure of the Congregations of the whole University
shall be determined by the Chancellor,
2. The Chancellor, or in his absence, the Vice-Chancellor, shall preside at
Congregations.
3. At least one Congregation shall be held in each academic year.
STATUTE 3.
Members of the University.
The members of the University shall be-
(a) the Chancellor;
(b) the Vice-Chancellor,
(c) the Pro-Vice-Chancellor;
(d) the Treasurer,
(c) the Presidents and the Vice-Presidents of the Colleges;
( the members of the Council;
(g) the members of the Senate;
(h) the Appointed Teachers and Recognized Lecturers of the University
during the tenure of their appointments;
(7) the Librarian and Registrar of the University during their tenure of
office:

( such other members of the staff of the University and of the several Colleges during the tenore of their appointments as the Council may from time to time determine;
(k) Emeritus and Honorary Professors;
( the graduates and such other persons as are entitled in accordance with the provisions of paragraph 3 of Statute 12 to have their names placed upon the Convocation ráðl;
(m) the students.
STATUTE 4.
The Chancellor,
1. The Chancellor, when present, shall preside at Congregations of the Univer-
sity.
2. The Chancellor shall be entitled-
(e) to call for information in regard to any matter relating to the welfare of the University from the Vice-Chancellor and the Chairman of the Council whose duty it shall be to provide such information; and
(6) on the receipt of such information to recommend to the Counelt such
action as he decms proper.
STATUTE 5,
The Vice-Chomcellve,
1. The Vice-Chancellor other than the first Vice-Chancellor shall be appointed by the Council after receiving the advice of a committee established by the Council and composed of the Chairman of the Council, the President of each of the Colleges, twa members nominated by the Council from among its number and two members nominated by the Seaste from among its number.
2. The Vice-Chancellor shall hold office for such period and on such terms
as may be determined by the Council.
3. The Vice-Chancellor shall-
(a) have the right and duty to advise the Council on any matter affecting
the policy, finance and administration of the University:
(8) be generally responsible to the Council for the maintenance of the cfficiency and good order of the University and for ensuring the proper enforcement of the Statutes, decrees and regulations;
(c) be responsible for the discipline of every student outside the College to which be belongs and shall report to the Senate at its next meeting if be has suspended or proposes to expel any student; and
(d) present an annual report to the Convocation on the state of the Univer-
sity;
(6) have power to appoint a person to discharge the functions and duties of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, a Dean of a Faculty, a Director of Univer- sity Studies, the Registrar, or the Librarian during a temporary vacancy in any such appointment or during the temporary absence of inability of the holder of any such appointment;
(/) have power in case of emergency to appoiut external examiners.
