(6) in sub-paragraph (d) of paragraph (2) by the deletion of the word "donote" and the substitution therefor of the following-

"denote"".

5. Regulation 36 of the principal regulations is amended by the of section 36. deletion of the words "together with the distinctive letter of the polling

station".

6. Regulation 39 of the principal regulations is amended in paragraph (b)

(a) by the insertion after sub-paragraph (1) of the following new

sub-paragraph

"(u) the unused and spoilt tendered ballot papers;"; and (b) by the deletion of the semicolon at the end of sub-paragraph

(iii) and the substitution therefor of the following

"and of the tendered ballot papers.".

The Appendix to the principal regulations is amended in Form 12-

(a) by the deletion of the words—

"The elector should see that the ballot paper, before it is banded to him is stamped by the poll clerk otherwise his vote will not count.”

and the substitution therefor of the following-

"The elector should ensure that the ballot paper handed to him has been marked with the official identification mark. Any ballot paper which is not so marked is void and will not be counted.";

(b) by the deletion of the words "No elector may take a balls paper out of the polling station" to the end and the substitution therefor of the following

"Any elector who takes any ballot paper out of the polling station or who deposits in the ballot box any paper other than the ballot paper given to him by the poll clerk will be liable, in accordance with regulation 27, to a fine of five hundred dollars and imprisonment for six months.”,

Explanatory Note.

(This Note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general purport).

The purpose of these regulations is to amend the principal regulations- (a) in regulation 27 to prohibit the unauthorized removal of ballot papers from the polling stations or the insection of papers other than authentie ballot papers into palling boxes;

(8) in regulation 31 to make reference to "polling_clerk" instead of "presiding officer" in order to bring the regulation into line with practice; and

(c) in regulation 39 to make provision for disposal of unused or spoilt

ballot papers.

1 Opportunity has been taken to correct a typographical error in regula- lion 3 and in regulation 36 to delete from the particulars to be inserted in the list of tendered ballot papers reference in the distinctive letter of the particular polling station. Form 12 of the Appendix to these regulations is amended conequcatial upon the amendment of regulation 31.
