An Ordinance to make provision for restricting pollution of the air

and for matters connected therewith.

Be it enacted by the Governor of Hong Kong, with the advice and consent of the Legistative Council thereof, as follows-

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Clean Air Ordinance, Short dtle 1959, and shall come into operation on a day to be appointed, by the and com- Governor by Proclamation in the Gazette.

2. In this Ordinance, unless the context otherwise requires- "competent authority" means a competent authority appointed by the

Governor in accordance with section 10:

"dark smoke" means smoke which, if compared in the appropriate manner with a chart of the type known at the date of the enactment of this Ordinance as the Ringelmann Chart, would appear to be as dark as or darker than shade 2 on the chart;

"furnace" includes any kind of fireplace, grate or stove, whether open

or closed;
