(3) The filling points of all fuel tanks shall be outside the body of the omnibus, and the filler caps shall be so designed and constructed that they can be securely fixed in position and the vent hole, if any, shall be so designed as to be protected from danger of penetration by fire and to prevent fuel being splashed

over.

48. All carburettors in an omnibus and apparatus associated carburettor. therewith shall be so placed or shielded that no fuel leaking there- from shall fall upon any part or fitting which is capable of igniting it, or into any receptacle where it might accumulate.

50. The exhaust pipe in an omnibus shall be so fitted or shielded that no inflammable material can be thrown upon it from any other part of the vehicle and that it is not likely to calise a fire through proximity to any inflammable material on the vehicle and the outlet thereof shall be placed on the off-side and far enough to the rear to prevent, so far as practicable, fumes from entering the vehicle.

51. All electric leads in an omnibus shall be adequately insulated and all circuits carried through suitable fuses.

52. All moving parts in an omnibus and all parts subject to severe vibration connected by bolts or studs and nuts shall be fastened by lock nuts or by nuts and efficient spring or lock nul washers, or by castellated nuts and split pins or by some other efficient device so as to prevent their working or coming loose.

63. The body of an omnibus shall be securely affixed to the chassis and every trap door in the floor of the omnibus shall be strong and so fitted or fastened that it cannot become dislodged by vibration, with any lifting device properly sunk.

54. (1) In the case of a double-decked omnibus with an uncovered top deck-

(a) the top of the side rails shall be at least three feet above the roof battens at the sides and eighteen inches above the highest part of any seat excluding the back of the seat; and

(b) the top of the front and back rails shall be at least three feet three inches above the roof battens and shall follow the camber of the roof.

(2) In the case of a single-decked omnibus without a per- manent top the height of the body sides from the floor shall be not less than two feet four inches.

55. (1) The top of the tread of the lowest step for any Steps. entrance or exit to an omnibus, other than an emergency exit, platforms

shall not be more than seventeen inches or less than ten inches above the ground when the omnibus is empty.

(2) All steps shall be fitted with non-slip treads.

(3) The tread of each fixed step shall be not less than nine inches and risers shall be not more than ten inches.

(4) Fixed steps shall in no case project laterally beyond the body of the vehicle unless they are so protected by the front wings or otherwise that they are not liable to injure pedestrians.

66. In the case of a double-decked omnibus-

and stairs,

be fitted with non-slip treads;

(c) the horizontal distance from the nearest point of the riser of the top stop to the vertical line passing through the nesrest point of the seat opposite to the top tread of the staircase, excluding any grab rail which does not project more than three inches from the back of the seat, shall not be less than twenty-six inches ;

(d) the outer stringer of an outside staircase shall be so con- structed, or a band so placed, as to act as a screen to persons ascending or descending, and the height of the outer guard rail shall not be less than three feet three inches above the front of the tread of each step.
