Explanatory Note.

(This Note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general purport),

The Vehicle and Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles) (Direction Indicator) Regulations, 1948, require that every vehicle equipped with electric lighting equipment shall be fitted with "semaphore" type direction indicators. Many manufacturers are now equipping vehicles with direction indicatore of the "flashing light" type and these regulations are designed to permit such indicators to be used in the Colony.

2. The Schedule to these regulations sets out the alternative require- ments for direction indicators and follows the corresponding regulationa in force in the United Kingdom.

VEHICLE AND ROAD Traffic (Silent Zones) RegulationS, 1954.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Vehicle and Road Traffic Ordinance, the Governor in Council has made the following regulations-

These regulations may be cited as the Vehicle and Road Citation Traffic (Silent Zones) Regulations, 1954, and shall come into and com- operation on the 8th day of March, 1954.

In these regulations-

"silent zone" means an area, road or portion of a road specified

in the First Schedule;

(3) Any person who contravenes any of the provisions of this regulation shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable

on summary conviction to a fine of one hundred dollars.

4. The Commissioner of Police shall cause signs to be Šigna,

(i) at or near points of entry into silent zones, (ii) at intervals within silent zones;
