17. The District Commissioner shall make proper and fitting arrangements for the re-burial in an authorized cemetery or urn cemetery of any body or remains removed under rule 15: Provided that when it is desired to dispose otherwise of bodies or remains of persons of the Chinese race in accordance with Chinese custom, the necessary permission shall be given, subject to such con- ditions as the District Commissioner may impose.

18. Where in any authorized cemetery or urn cemetery a nuisance is caused by any urn or the remains contained therein and the next-of-kin of the dead person cannot readily be found. any health officer may abate the nuisance by causing the urn to be re-buried in a position as near as may be to that in which it was found.

19. Notwithstanding the provisions of these rules a magis- Irale may order the exhumation of any body or remains for the purpose of inquiry into the death of any person.

20. Any person who contravenes the provisions of rule o, ro, 11, 12, 13 or 14 shall be liable to a fine of one thousand dollars.

21. Rules 3 to 20 shall come into operation in respect of such cemeteries and urn cemeteries and in respect of such districts on such date as the Governor in Council shall notify in the Gaselte : Provided that these rules shall not apply to any private cemetery or private urn cemetery held under lease from the Crown or to any cemetery or urn cemetery under the control of the Urban Council.

22. The Authorized Cemeteries and Prohibited Burials Authorized (N.T.) Rules are rescinded.

CHEUNG CHAU (Urn) Cemetery (ESTABLISHMENT) RULES, 1954.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 4(3)(m) of the New Territories Ordinance, the Governor in Council has made the following rules-
