furnished evidence of good character to the satisfaction of the Board, and has made application for registration before the 1st day of January, 1941, or within such further period not exceeding two years as the Board might in special circumstances have allowed;

(8) any person who shall by reason of his professional qualification, experience and skill, satisfy the Board that he is a fil person to be registered under this Ordinance: Provided that every

person applying for registration under this paragraph shall furnish such evidence of good character as shall satisfy the Board."

(1) Section 2 is amended by the repeal of the

definition of "note-issuing bank".

(2) Section 3 is amended by the addition at the

end thereof of the following-

"(3) Notwithstanding this section the Governor in Council may in his discretion grant a special licence to any person who on the 30th day of January, 1948, not being a company carried on, conducted, managed or directed banking business in the Colony, and such banking business shall thereupon be deemed to be a licen- sed bank to which all the provisions of this Ordinance relating to a licensed bank shall apply. Provided that nothing in this subsection shall affect the operation of section 332 of the Companies Ordin- ance, 1932.

(3) Section 4 is amended by the deletion in the second line of the words "continue or coin- mence to'',

(4) Section 5 is amended-

(a) by the deletion in the fourth line of sub- section (1) of the words "use or continuc to":

(b) by the deletion in the sixth line of sub-

section (1) of the words "continue to".

(5) Section 11 is repealed and replaced by the

following-

11. Nothing in this Ordinance con- tained shall be taken to authorize the issue in the Colony of any bank notes by a licensed bank other than a note-issuing bank within the meaning of the Currency Ordinance, 1935-"

(6) Sections 12 and 13 are repealed.
