An Ordinance to amend the Marchant Shipping Ordinance, 1899.

Es it enacted by the Governor of Hong Kong with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, is follows:

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Merchant Shipping Short title. (Amendment) Ordinance, 1940, and shall be read as one with the Ordinance Merchant Shipping Ordinance, 1899, hereinafter referred to as the No. ro of principal Ordinance.

2 Section 2 of the principal Ordinance is hereby amended-

(a) by the aubstitution of the following paragraph for

paragraph (2):-

"Motor boat "" means any vessel of European build not exceeding sixty tons and mechanically propelled;

(6) by the insertion of the following paragraph immediately after paragraph (7):

02 "Port Health Officer" includes the Director of Medical Services and any officer for the time being performing the duties of Port Health Officer;

(c) by the substitution of the following paragraph for paragraph (n):

** (n) Ship "includes any description of vessel used in navigation not propelled by oars but excludes junka and
