Officer shall not be so read and construed if it appears that despite the use of auch expression it was intended to refer to an officer who was prior to the 20th of March, 1948, styled and known a Assistant District Officer

(2) Whenever in any Ordinance, order of the Governor in Council, appointment, rule, regulation, minute, by-law, dead, contract, official letter or other document, coming into operation or executed before the commencement of the New Territories (Administra- tion) Ordinance, 1948, the expression Assistant District Officer appears, the same shall be read and construed na if reference had been made to District Officer "

(3) This section shall not apply to the Landa (Ping Shan) Re-vesting Ordinance, 1948."

An Ordinance to provide for the establishment of the Hong Kong

Defence Force.

Be it rected by the tiovernor of Hong Kong with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof;

This Ordinance may be cited as the Hong Kong Defence Short Tide, Force Ordinance, 1948.

In this Ordinance-

**appointments" includes accoutrements and equipment of every kind other than clothing;

Force;

"Air Force" means the Hong Kong Air Force; “Auxiliary Force" means the Hong Kong Auxiliary

**Commandant" means the person for the time being entrusted with the general administration of the Force, and in the event of there being no such person, means the officer who is most senior in rank.in the Force;
