Experts to meet on transfer of archives

Experts from the two sides of the Sino-British Joint Liaison Group will meet in Hong Kong on Monday (February 3) to discuss the transfer of Hong Kong's archives.

The British side will be led by British Representative, Mr Alan Paul. The Chinese side will be led by Chinese Representative, Mr Wang Weiyang. They will be assisted by experts from the two sides.

Appointments to JSC announced

The Government today (Friday) announced that the Hon Mr Justice Gerald Paul Nazareth; the Hon Mr Justice Patrick Chan; Miss Gladys Li,QC; Mr Roderick Woo; Dr Victor Fung Kwok-king; Mrs Eleanor Ling Ching-man; and Sir Joseph E Hotung have been reappointed as members of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) up till June 30, 1997.

The functions of the JSC are to advise the Governor regarding:

(a)

the filling of vacancies in judicial offices;

(b)

such representations from a judicial officer concerning conditions of service as may be referred to it by the Governor; and

(c)

any matter affecting judicial officers which may be prescribed or which the Governor may refer to the Commission.

The Chief Justice is the ex officio Chairman of the JSC and the Attorney General is an ex officio member. The seven other members are appointed by the Governor. They comprise two judges, one barrister, one solicitor and three lay members.
