TURNING TO GREEN MINIBUS SERVICES, MR RUMJAHN POINTED OUT THAT THE MAIN COMPLAINTS WERE ABOUT MINIBUSES NOT ADHERING TO APPROVED SCHEDULE OR ROUTING.
COMPLAINTS ABOUT TAXI SERVICE RECEIVED BY THE TCU IN THE QUARTER TOTALLED 184 CASES COMPARED WITH 103 CASES RECORDED IN THE PREVIOUS QUARTER.
AS IN THE PREVIOUS QUARTER, MOST OF THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT TAXI SERVICE CONCERNED MALPRACTICES AND MISCONDUCT OF TAXI DRIVERS, NAMELY TAXI DRIVERS REFUSING HIRE OR SOLICITING PASSENGERS, NOT TAKING THE MOST DIRECT ROUTING, FAILING TO DRIVE TO DESTINATIONS AND OVERCHARGING.
CONCERNING SEA TRANSPORT, MR RUMJAHN SAID ROUTES OPERATED BY THE HONG KONG YAUMATI FERRY COMPANY DROPPED FROM 37 CASES IN THE PREVIOUS QUARTER TO 10 CASES IN THE CURRENT QUARTER.
THE MAIN AREAS OF COMPLAINT WERE INADEQUATE CARRYING CAPACITY, CLEANLINESS OF VESSELS AND PASSENGER FACILITIES.
COMPLAINTS ABOUT ROAD CONGESTION TOTALLED 300 CASES 89 CASES ON HONG KONG ISLAND, 124 CASES IN KOWLOON, 58 CASES IN THE NEW TERRITORIES AND 29 CASES IN TUNNELS AND AREAS AFFECTED BY LRT WORKS.
FACTORS WHICH WERE ATTRIBUTABLE TO ROAD CONGESTION INCLUDED LOADING AND UNLOADING ACTIVITIES AT KERBSIDE, TRAFFIC ENGINEERING MATTERS, INADEQUATE ROAD CAPACITY, ROAD WORK AND HAWKER OBSTRUCTION. OF ALL CASES CONCERNING VEHICLE OBSTRUCTION CAUSING CONGESTION, 43 PER CENT WERE DIRECTED AT PUBLIC LIGHT BUSES.
COMPLAINTS ABOUT TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT MEASURES TOTALLED 78. THE MAJOR AREAS OF CONCERN INCLUDED PRINCESS MARGARET ROAD FLYOVER RECONSTRUCTION AND ITS RELATED TRAFFIC DIVERSION SCHEME, TRAFFIC FLOW IN TUNG CHAU WEST STREET AND TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT IN ́KWUN TONG INDUSTRIAL AREA.
COMPARED WITH THE PREVIOUS QUARTER, COMPLAINTS CONCERNING THE MAINTENANCE OF ROADS AND ROAD FURNITURE DECREASED FROM 204 CASES TO 139 THIS QUARTER. THE MAJOR AREAS OF COMPLAINT WERE DEFECTIVE ROAD SURFACES, MALFUNCTIONED TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND DAMAGED TRAFFIC SIGNS/AIDS.
TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT CASES WENT DOWN FROM 190 CASES IN THE PREVIOUS QUARTER TO 161 CASES THIS QUARTER, MAINLY INVOLVING REQUESTS FOR ENFORCEMENT ACTION AGAINST ILLEGAL PARKING, ABANDONED VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC OFFENCES.
THE TRANSPORT COMPLAINTS UNIT WAS SET UP UNDER THE TRANSPORT ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO RECEIVE AND MONITOR COMPLAINTS AND SUGGESTIONS ON TRANSPORT MATTERS. IT OPERATES A 24-HOUR HOTLINE ON 5-776866.
