MORE PEOPLE SEEK HELP FROM TRANSPORT UNIT

MORE PEOPLE HAVE SOUGHT THE HELP OF THE TRANSPORT ADVISORY COMMITTEE'S TRANSPORT COMPLAINTS UNIT TO RESOLVE THEIR COMPLAINTS ABOUT TRANSPORT SERVICES.
IN ITS LATEST QUARTERLY REPORT, COVERING THE PERIOD OCTOBER 1 TO DECEMBER 31, 1983, THE UNIT RECORDED A TOTAL OF 1 443 DIRECT COMPLAINTS, AN INCREASE OF EIGHT PER CENT OVER THE 1 341 COMPLAINTS IN THE PREVIOUS QUARTER.
THIS FIGURE REPRESENTS SIMILAR PERCENTAGE INCREASE OVER THE
1 331 COMPLAINTS IN THE SAME PERIOD OF THE PREVIOUS YEAR.
THE EXECUTIVE SECRETARY OF THE UNIT, MR STEPHEN PANG, NOTED THAT PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICES WERE STILL THE MAIN SUBJECT OF COMPLAINTS, ACCOUNTING FOR 668 CASES OR 46 PER CENT OF THE TOTAL.
OVER THREE-FIFTHS OF THESE CASES WERE DIRECTED AGAINST CMB AND KMB.
+COMPLAINTS CONCERNING CMB SHOWED A DECLINE. 148 COMPLAINTS WERE RECORDED IN THE QUARTER AGAINST THE MORE THAN 170 COMPLAINTS IN THE PREVIOUS QUARTER AND IN THE SAME PERIOD OF 1982. HOWEVER, THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS AGAINST CMB STAFF WAS STILL RELATIVELY HIGH. THERE WERE 62 SUCH CASES, REPRESENTING 42 PER CENT OF THE 148 CASES IN THE QUARTER, SAID MR PANG,

ON THE OTHER HAND, THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS CONCERNING KMB ROSE FROM 213 IN THE PREVIOUS QUARTER TO 260 IN THIS QUARTER INCREASE OF 73 CASES WHEN COMPARED WITH THE 187 COMPLAINTS IN THE SAME QUARTER OF THE PREVIOUS YEAR.
+THE UPWARD TREND WAS MAINLY DUE TO MORE COMPLAINTS ABOUT INADEQUATE KMB SERVICE IN THE NEW TOWNS. COMPLAINTS ABOUT KMB STAFF HOWEVER REMAINED LOW (26 CASES) AS IN THE LAST QUARTER (25 CASES), SAID MR PANG.
THE SERVICES OF THE NEW LANTAO BUS COMPANY LIMITED WERE ALSO SUBJECT TO MORE COMPLAINTS SINCE ITS SECTIONAL FARES WERE ADJUSTED AS A RESULT OF THE INTRODUCTION OF A ONE-MAN-OPERATION SYSTEM ON ITS BUSES.
A TOTAL OF 13 COMPLAINTS WERE RECEIVED IN THE QUARTER, COMPARED WITH ONLY 11 COMPLAINTS RECORDED IN THE PRECEDING 12 MONTHS,
THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON TRAFFIC ENGINEERING MATTERS CONTINUED TO GROW. OF THE 411 COMPLAINTS RECEIVED IN THE QUARTER, 210 WERE ABOUT ROAD CONGESTION, 110 WERE RELATED TO PARKING FACILITIES AND 84 WERE ABOUT TRAFFIC AIDS OR PEDESTRIAN FACILITIES.
