The 1976 Squatter Control Survey, which involved numbering and measuring all huts as well as commercial and industrial areas, provides the Housing Department with more accurate and up-to-date information on the squatting situation.
"These information are being transferred to master copies of maps being kept by the Squatter Control Division of the department to enable more effective control over squatting," the spokesman said. Staff of the Division will intensify its patrol of squatter areas, especially the black spots, to "freeze" the situation.
Though structures covered by the survey will in no way be immunised from demolition they will not normally be cleared until the land is required for development.
