RETIRING AGE FOR CIVIL SERVANTS

Consultations between the government and the staff associations

on the question of revising the retiring age of civil servants are

proceeding constructively, the Colonial Secretary, the Hon. Sir Hugh

Norman-Walker, said today.

He told the Legislative Council that a great deal of goodwill

and understanding had been shown during the negotiations, and he hoped

that an agreement would shortly be reached.

Debate in the council on the motion concerning the retiring

age of civil servants would be resumed once the consultations had concluded

and after the agreement had been endorsed by the Governor-in-Council,

Sir Hugh said.
