COLONIAL SECRETARIAT, Lower Albert Road, Hong Kong.

16th November, 1948.

Dear Sidebotham,

(14)

Thank you very much for your letter

No.54298/1/48 of the 29th September about Sir Fatrick Abercrombie's Report.

2.

We have not yet had time to go into it on the policy side, but the text has been carefully examined and I enclose a list of corrigenda which I have also sent to Sir Patrick in Australia. I have asked him to let me know if he agrees to thse changes being made.

3.

You will see that most of our suggestions cover typing errors and the spelling of place names, but there are some omissions which we wish made for political or security reasons.

4.

Unless there are other points which you wish to raise, we propose publishing the report as soon as we hear from Sir Patrick that he is agreeable to these alterations.

5.

Meanwhile, we are having "working copies" made incorporating the amendments proposed for use in the Departments concerned. These will remain confidential until publication can be arranged.

J.B. Sidebotham, Esq., C.M.G.,

Colonial Office,

The Church House,

Great Smith Street,

LONDON, S.W.1.

Enclosure.

DCB:IS

Yours sincerely,

mot

D.M. MacDougall.
