MEMORANDUM
Vacancies in the Colonial Service for European officers of the Indian Civil Service (including those serving in the Indian Political Service) and the Burma Civil Service (Class 1).
The Secretary of State for the Colonies wil be glad to consider applications from European officers of the Indian Civil Service (including those serving in the Indian Political Service) and the Burma Civil service (Class I) for appointment to permanent pensionable posts in the Colonial Administrative Service.

The main conditions governing applications for these posts are as follows:-

(a) Age Limit. Candidates must have been born on or
after the 1st Janu ry 1910;
(b) Salary Sc.les. Selected candidates will be engaged on
salary scales in which initial salary varies between £350 and 2500 per annum rising to £1,000 or £1,400 per annum according to locality.
(c) Previous Service. Government service since appointment to the Indian Civil Service or Burma Civil Service (Class I) will be regarded as equivalent to service in the Colonial Administrative Service for incremental purposes;

Number of Vacancies. It is estimated that up to
25 vacancies will be available. Most of these vacancies will be in tropical Africa and the majority will be in West Africa;
(e) Method of Selection.
Competitive selection based on record and personal interviews, which will take place in London between April and December 1947. There will be no written examination and only those candidates who, on a scrutiny of their application forms, are considered to be prima facie suitable will be summoned for interview.
Officers wishing to be considered for these appointments must fill in the accompanying application form and submit it in accordance with the instructions given at the head of it. They may be asked to supply the Colonial Office with further information at a later stage.

Further details as to conditions of service will be supplied to all candidates who on a scrutiny of their applications are regarded as suitable for consideration. The terms offered will
not in any case be affected by any gratuity or pension to which an officer may be entitled from the Government of India or Burma.
