Other Charges
Office Equipment and Furniture ($3,000) Upkeep of Motor Vehicles (3,000), Newspapers and Periodicals (150) and Advertising (100) are now provided for departmentally. Printing of Books and Publications is increased by $4,000 as a result of the expansion of the activities of the Department and $300 is allowed for Uniforms. Books and Publications are reduced by $4,000, Travelling Expenses by $500 and Incidental Expenses by $400. No provision is made for Fuel, Light and Power as the offices are located in the Colonial Secretariat. The net increase is $4,650.
The total recurrent expenditure is greater than 1946/47 by $14,608.

Personal Emoluments
In
A Senior Agricultural Officer and an Agricultural Officer (Animal Husbandry) have been substituted for the former establishment of one Agricultural Officer. addition a temporary Agricultural Officer was engaged on a one year contract during the year and is chiefly employed on marketing duties. Two Assistant Agricultural Officers have been replaced by two Agricultural Assistants Grade I. One additional clerk, one messenger and one motor driver have been provided for. care taker and one Chinese Assistant have been deleted and two foremen and 46 farm labourers are a block vote as temporary
now paid undor staff. The Wholesale Vegetable Market staff has been increased owing to the proposed extension of the Vegetable Marketing Scheme to Hong Kong Island. The not increase on Personal Emoluments iš $81,269.

This

The Nightsoil Disposal Scheme was provided for last year under Special Expenditure. scheme is now working satisfactorily at a profit and there is a corresponding revenue item. The initial expenditure on the Pig and Cattle Stations was also provided for last year under Special Expenditure. is in consequence an increase in Other Charges over last year's figure of $137,000.
