I wish I could have arrived with the Fleet and the 3000 R.A.F. airfield construction troops who had to take over Kowloon, disarm 18,000 Nips, and then prevent the damable Chinese looters from cleaning the place up. These cattle have been a real menace and have done infinitely more damage than the Nips.
The story goes that these "erks" having disarmed the docile Nips had to rearm sufficient numbers of them to take with them on patrols and to put with their own chaps as sentries on Godowns and important stores.
Have a look at the Central Executive Branch W.E. and you will see that we have 15 different Departments to set up varying from Indian Affairs to Veterinary, from Public Relations to Assessment and Education to Air Port. We have eight of them standing on their own feet already and requiring only supervision and are now concentrating on some of the others. There is no doubt that it is local knowledge that counts most in this post operational phase as we have to I handle local staff in getting these shows going. We are as you
