suffice to make possible a redistribution of space among the Departments. The cost of the building could hardly be less than £15,000. Re-cquipment of the laboratories for Physiology. Pathology and Biochemistry is likely to cost at least £25,000 on the UNESCO minimal basis.
4. Housing of students and staff had ceased to be adequate. A sum of £15,000 might easily be required to repair damage to hostels, houses and the Students' Union building. The University had a project for additional staff quartore to cat about £20,000. To house the additional staff and students of the projected Univerzity Maild cost at least three times that amant,1,e. £60,000. A small aim of perhaps £3,000 would suffice for the repair of the general and Chinese Libraries. The Hall of the University was vory badly damaged. At some future date it may be possible to encourage a local bonefactor to build a Hall which is not an affront to the bluntest aesthetic sense. (It has been said that merit can be counted to the Japanese against the record of their political incompetence for the erection of a beautiful Government House and the destruction of the University Hall.)
