(87) contains suggestions from Mr. Sloss by which the capital expenditure of £600,000 estimated in the Committee's report as necessary for new buildings might, for the time being at any rate, be halved. I do not think Mr. Sloss wished to put these suggestions forward at this stage and I have written to him as in letter opposite.
(88) is a letter from Mr. Sloss reporting that old-students' Associations of the University in various places are themselves endeavouring to raise funds towards the development of the University. This is noteable and most encouraging news and it is natural that Mr. Sloss should wish to feel free to publish parts or the report on his return to Hong Kong. There is another mont h
