49. The Report as set out above indicates in general the provision made for medical education as observed during the recent visit. The College of Medicine is well organised and efficiently administered. Medical education of a high standard is provided and is progressing on sound lines. The high reputa- tion already earned by the College is steadily increasing.
50. During the period 1934-38 the Dental Clinic, temporarily established in converted wards of the Hospital, has been moved into a new building specially built for the purpose. It is, in fact, a new Dental College, well designed, fully equipped, and providing a full course of instruction leading to a diploma of L.D.S., Singa- pore, which is granted by the Council of the College of Medicine to successful students.
51. The accommodation in the College is now fully occupied. Proposals are in hand to increase the numbers of admissions of medical as well as dental students in order to meet the growing needs of Malaya, and projects for extensions, or for additional accommodation, may soon arise for consideration by the Council of the College.
52. The important question of strengthening the teaching staff of the College should be considered. The provision of Lecturers is necessary to develop special sections of departments, and they should be of such status as to be able to assume charge of the department in the absence of the Professor on long leave; especially is this necessary in the department of Anatomy.
53. Before leaving Singapore I was invited to address meetings of the Council and the Senate on the conditions of medical educa- tion as observed during my visit. An opportunity was thus afforded of describing in outline to these audiences the provisions of the Medical Acts under which the General Medical Council obtain information as to courses of study, and arrange the visita- tion and inspection on their behalf of final and other examina- tions, for registrable qualifications granted in Great Britain and in Eire, and of stating the objects of the visitation of medical
