SOUTHERN REGIONS EXCELLENT IMPORT FIGURES

Tokyo: With the recommencement of imports of many necessary raw materials from the Southern Regions various local manufacturing industries in Hongkong, including rope, sugar, tobacco and beer have been reestablished according to a Hongkong despatch to Asahi. Recent production figures indicate 500,000 pounds rope being manufactured monthly with Manila hemp imported from the Philippines, far exceeding the pre-war record. Furthermore 80,000,000 cigarettes are being produced monthly, which amount will greatly increase with the import of Burmese tobacco leaves while the monthly production of beer estimated 6,000 dozen
