No water and no sanitation. Grayburn came in and asked C.S. to write a
etter to Japs. asking that H.K. bank staff may be allowed to return to the quarters in the H.K. bank building.

Nothing of much interest except we received today 60 blankets from the Japs consulate and two tons of coal and plenty of food. It appears Yano has had something to do with it.
11th Jan. 1942.
The filth continues to be dreadful and the flies are getting worse. Reports of conditions at Hotels are not getting any the less and conditions are no better.
News from Kowloon is bad. Dyssentry in Argyle street camp and not enough food. General reports are that food can be obtained in the streets of Kowloon at high prices, but there is a definite shortage of rice. Supplies
Ins fficient rice and few to troops seem to be on same basis as civilians. vegetables.

Lists of prisoners gradually filtering in. spent the day sorting them out and preparing lists of internees for Japs.
13th Jan, 1942.
Paid a visit to Rosary Hill hospital. Soldiers are cheerful but anxious for e8.
First time I have been through Wanchai except for the one time with Iguchi. Dairy Farm corner plastered badly, Noticed several blocks in that district completely gutted. Race Course building lamaged in several places. The race course is also being used as a car dump. Sihk temple completely destroyed. Naval hospital corner also a bad spot. Pådney found two decomposed bodies in his house, one with his hands tied behind his back, appeared to be Chinese but too decomposed to wally tell.
16th Jan, 1942.
Reports coming in that food at Shamshuipo is dreadful. D.M.S. confirms that they are not getting enough food to keep a grown man alive. Reports differ. Some say officers are well treated and lower ranks badly treated, others say that they are all treated alike. All reports are that they are not getting enough food and that dyssentry has broken out at both Argyle Street and S.S.Po. No visitors are allowed at 3.5. Po but food parcels can be taken into Argyle Street and visitors are allowed, but not enemy aliens. Talks are continuing re proper interment camp. There are still a large number of people free, i,e,. those at hospitals and those living on the Peak
C.J. made undert the care of the C.J. altogether about 450 on the Peak. himself responsible for them and has made arrangements to collect food supplies. They a re to remain there until general arrangements have been completed for a proper internment camp.
Cars in cricket club compound are being demolished Looks as though essential parts are being stripped from them ready for shipment.
An incident happened tonight at P.G. during dinner where a Jap, Naval officer after having had dinner and received his change, he found amongst his change a dollar bill. (H.K. dollars have a print of the head of George Vl.) He picked up a knife and stabbing it through the head. thraw the dollar on the fl or and said "give this to the boy I don't want it. that man is a very bad man". He got up and walked out but at the door stopped and shook hands with the proprietor saying "Thank you very much for your good food. I shall not see you again. tomorrow I go to Singapore and after that to Australia".
