My dear Gent,

So much goes by telegram nowadays

and mails are so few and long in transit that

we send fewer despatches than was the case before

the war. I propose, therefore, to write you more

or less monthly a newsletter which will keep you

a little better informed as to how we are getting

I may at times use expressions which I should

not care to have quoted back to me in communications

which must go to my advisers here, so I hope that

these newsletters will not be regarded as always

quotable.
