Many thanks for Morse's letter and enclosure which came in yours of the 11th inst. It was most interesting. Difficult to see. what we could do for the H.K. University (barring monetary and other assistance to surviving students) unless the British
Council would maintain somewhere in China a skeleton H. K. University which would keep the institution 'in esse':
say 30 students and a
medical or engineering school. There is much to be said for
continuity in matters of tradition: moreover it could be a practical field of activity for the Council.
