considered this experience insufficient for such a

responsible position.

4. The present Senior Revenue

Officer,Mr.Grimmitt, is now on long leave, and we

have been given to understand that no acting appoint-

-ment will be made during his absence. We have also

heard reports that it is not proposed to fill the

post when Mr.Grimmitt leaves the service. The under-

-signed feel bound most respectfully to place on

record their protest against this injury to their

already poor prospects, and they humbly request that

they be given an assurance at least that abolition

of this senior post for which they are eligible is

not contemplated. Furthermore they ask respectfully

that they may be informed as to the reasons why no

acting appointment has been made during fr.Grimmitt's

absence. They cannot credit the possibility that not

one of their number is competent to fill the post,

and they see in this a confirmation of the report

that abolition of the post is under consideration.

5. The undersigned have been

impelled to address the Government because the act-

-ing appointment has not been made, but they feel

now that they must apprise the Government also of

their concern at the continued expansion of the staff

of Revenue Officers without any corresponding in-

-crease in their prospects.
