IV NEW SCALES FOR CERTAIN CLASSES OF THE SERVICE NOT
ALREADY PROVIDED FOR IN APPENDIX VI TO GENERAL
ORDERS
20. We append a list of offices and grades either now
forming part of Unified Services or of comparable status,
but not included in Appendix VI to General Orders, with the
salaries which we recommend for them after consideration of
the views of Heads of Departments. Except where free
quarters are indicated, the new terms" as to quarters
(i.e. basic rent of 12%) and therefore as to pension would
apply. In all cases Residential Allowances would be payable on the percentage scale recommended in paragraph 14
above, except for European Mistresses in the Educational
Department for whom a flat allowance is proposed. We have
attempted to frame these scales so as to secure the maximum
possible uniformity of increments, etc., at corresponding
periods in the various scales and to reduce the number of
scales. We attach a table showing all the scales now proposed for male officers, including those already set out
in Appendix VI to General Orders, in some of which we have
made minor modifications with the same objects in view.
21. We add the following explanations and qualifications
in individual cases.
(i) Superintendent of Prisons. Salary already approved
as basic salary of the post.
(ii) Accountant General. Salary already approved as
basic salary of the post.
(iii) Assessor. We have made suggestions separately for
meeting the representations on personal grounds of
the present holder of the post.
(iv) Controller of Stores. Has already been submitted
to the Secretary of State for approval.
