steadily increasing urbanisation of the Colony
and the large programme of Public works now
contemplated. (Vide Enclosure B paragraph 5)
(f) The present healthy financial position of
the Colony's assets and revenue even with the
low taxation which now prevails, appears to
YOUR petitioners to give no justification for
reducing the remunerations of officers of the
local Service. (Vide Enclosure B, paragraph 12)
That, YOUR petitioners view with grave concern
and with a sence of injustice, the effects which the
introduction of the proposals of the Anomalies Committee
would have on them, not only by reductions in emoluments
and pensions but by the reduction of the relative status
of the Engineering profession vis-a-vis other professions
of this Service. This status has previously been establish
ed and accepted locally and it is pertinent to note that
it is now tending to rise in Great Britain.
YOUR PETITIONERS crave YOUR due
consideration of the representations
made in this their PETITION and
humbly pray that YOU will grant the
retention of the emoluments
recommended by the Salaries Commission
of 1929 for all grades of the
Engineering Staff of this Department.
AND YOUR PETITIONERS will as in duty
bound ever pray, etc., etc:
