Excellency as telegram No. 896, I have the honour to
report that the informal visit to Canton of His

successful. There were no speeches, nor was anything
of peculiar importance discussed in any of the many
conversations, but His Excellency's informal and
approachable attitude was much appreciated, and the
remarks which he made were precisely what in my opinion
were appropriate under the circumstances, am informed
that the visit has created the best of impressions in
every way,
