Sir,
I have the honour to refer to my telegram No.176 of 3rd September, 1937, regarding the typhoon which occurred on the night of 1st-2nd Sept ember and to inform you with regret that the details necessary for a full and accurate report are not yet available, owing to the wide area over which damage has been spread and the dislocation of communications with outlying
districts.

I am therefore sending herewith for your information, ad interim only, four extracts from the "South China Morning Post" dated September 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively, and a copy of a list of ships reported in difficulties up to 4th September, supplied by the Harbour Master.

As will be seen in Enclosure 3 the most serious
loss of life occurred at Taipo Market in the New
Territories. Work in connection with this disaster
is not yet complete.

Shipping losses include 778 native craft sunk or destroyed according to a preliminary report by the Harbour Master.

Extensive damage was done to the permanent way of the Kowloon Canton Railway, resulting in a
