REPORT ON THREE EUROPEAN CASES OF CHOLERA.

From the commencement of the Cholera epidemic in the

latter part of July to 18th of September, 1937, there had

been some 1,500 cases all of which were Chinese with the

exception of one European and three Indians.

On the 18th September, three Europeans - one female

were attacked more or less simultaneously.

and two males

They were :

1. MRS. PEARSON, age 35. Residing at No.5, Breezy

Point Villa, Park Rd., Hong Kong (about 300 yards south of

old Govt. Civil Hospital). She was employed as a clerk in

the office of Messrs. Butterfield & Swire.

History: On Saturday 18th September, she

commenced the day with diarrhoea not so urgent at first but

continued throughout the day. At about 6 p.m. when she was

at the Kowloon Hospital visiting her sick husband she fainted.

She was admitted as a patient and later transferred to the

Cholera Hospital.

She had been inoculated against

Cholera some three weeks previously.

MR. HOLDEN, age 47. A Surveyor's Clerk employed

in Headquarters, China Command.

Edward Road, Kowloon.

Residing at 279, Prince

History: On morning of Saturday 18th September,

he was suddenly attacked with cramps and severe diarrhoea and

vomiting. He was taken to Kowloon Hospital at 5 p.m. in a

prostrated condition and later transferred to the Cholera

Hospital.

He had been inoculated on 15th Aug-

ust, 1937.
