Sir,
I have the honour to inform you that
an application is about to be made to the
Judicial Committee of the Privy Council for
leave to appeal in forma pauperis on behalf of
one Chung Chi Cheung who was convicted on the
24th August, 1937, of the murder of Douglas
Lorne Campbell on board the Chinese Maritime
Customs Cruiser Cheong Keng in the waters of the
Colony on 11th January, 1937, and was sentenced
to death. An appeal to the Full Court on
questions of law was dismissed on 15th October,
1937.

In view of the application to the Privy
Council I have decided to respite the sentence
for four months from the 16th October, 1937, in
order to allow time for the application to be
heard.
3.
If leave to appeal to His Majesty in
Council be granted I would request that solicitors
