Copy of letter dated 25.6.37. from Sir Benjamin Heald

y dear Brander,
Your confidential letter of the 23rd June. I have no hesitation in saying that I regard D.J.Sloss as suitable for ap- pointment as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong.
During the five years (1927-1932) while I was Vice-Chancellor of the University of Rangoon, Sloss was Principal of University College, Rangoon, which was the largest College in the University, and we were working in close co-operation throughout that period.
I found him to be a man of great strength of character and of very sound common sense, and I relied greatly on his judgment and help. I hoped in fact that he would succeed me as Vice- Chancellor, and I would have recommended him strongly but that he told me that he would prefer to continue to be Principal of the College.
If there are any specific questions about him which you would like to ask I shall be glad to answer them.
Sincerely yours,
(Signed) B.H. HEALD
