There is no longer a single aeroplane available for air defence of Canton in order to prevent massacre of civilians which happens, although so fer not severe, two or three times every day.

2. Mayor informs me Gloster Aircraft Company who would require several months to execute a big order will supply 20 Gloster Gladia- tors immediately provided that His Majesty's Government will waive precedence for corresponding Covernment order. Under the circum- stances mentioned in preceding para raph. Hayor begs that His Majesty's Government will grant this favour which would earn deep gratitude. Delivery is desired to merchant consi nees in Burma whence aeroplanes would be flown to depot in China.
