Following received from Canton No. 124 September 15th.
Begins:-
Addressed to Shanghai No. 42 September 15th; repeated to
Peking, Mission and llongkong.
Following for His Lajesty's Chargé d'Affaires:
As a result of an informal visit made by adame Chiang Kai-shek to take tea at Government House, Hongkong, on September
7th it has been proposed the Governor should visit Canton in-
formally to interview Chiang Kai-shek at hanpoa. The date
suggested is Thursday, September 17th until September 19th and
it has had to be put forward owing to the ill-health of Madone
Chiang who is shortly leaving for Au Ling.
I consider such a visit at this juncture would be most
beneficial to our interests and I understand the Governor is
telegraphing to Colonial Office for permission to leave the
colony.
I hope the matter can be considered urgently as a suitable
programme has to be arranged at short notice.
Please repeat to Foreign Office.
