"Resumed by Colonial Government cost being defrayed

"by the War Department. "

With regard to Plot G I beg to confirm an entry in

the Colonial Military Lands Account of $3,021.50 in respect

of Crown Rent capitalized, although the reason for this is

not at all clear, as it was evidently a part of the cantonment.

Your suggestion that the War Department should

surrender to the Colonial Government their titles to Plots

B, E and G, as well as their estate and interest whatsoever

it may be in Plots A, C, D and F is agreed to, subject to the concurrence of the War Office, on the understanding that the

Colonial Government transfer the freehold in the 59.03 acres

to the War Department for so long as required for Military purposes; when no longer so required the land will revert to

the Colonial Government and further that no claims will be

put forward by the Colonial Government in respect of Crown

Rent.

A recommendation to this effect will be submitted

to War Office on receipt from you of the necessary draft

documents.

Your tracing is returned herewith.

I am, &c.

(sa.) R. B. Skinner,

Colonel,

Chief Engineer,

China Command.
