Dear Sir,

The Beeches,

Carrington,

Boston,

Lincs.

Thursday, Jan. 9th, 1936.

My wife Mrs. Badger received your cable

-

-

to-day saying Mary Mc Gregor (her sister) was dead and that an enquiry was being held. It came as a very great shock to us and we anxiously await your report.

As far as we had heard Mary Mc Gregor was

sailing from Tientsin (December 25.19.35) and was to

catch another boat The Perseus

-

Blue Funnel.

January

8th (yesterday) for home from Hong Kong. She had recently resigned her post as army schoolmistress with the British Forces, Tientsin, on account of illhealth.

Her last

letter spoke of having a very bad cold the weather being

very severe, and that she was nursing her health for the

voyage

-

This letter was dated December 10th 1935. Now

will you kindly give us all information that you have - both private and official.

She had of late been very friendly with a

man named H.A. Bird (ex Squad Leader R.A.F.) who was District Manager for the Navy, Army and Air Force Canteen at Tientsin. He had recently been home on leave (we have never met him) and had returned to take up a similar post at Hong Kong. We understood that he was a married man and that his wife was at Hong Kong. Now, seeing my dear sister-in-law is dead will you be quite frank
