Chinese No. 1 Tin in order to conform to the quality
called for must contain a minimum of 99% Tin. One of the
conditions of sale is that the analysis will be made in Hong-kong
and Hong-Kong Assay Certificate furnished. As such, Chinese No. 1
Tin should be deliverable on the London Metal Exchange, but one
of the conditions of placing the Tin on London Metal Exchange
Warrant is that it shall be sampled and assayed by two recognised
firms of English Assayers.
We have recently received some
parcels of Tin bought as Chinese No.1 Tin, and for which Hong-Kong Assay Certificates were furnished, showing a Tin content of 99.05% to 99.1%, which, on analysis in England, turned out to have a content of less than 99%, and could not accordingly be delivered
on the London Metal Exchange. This has involved us in considerable
loss, and as we understand that other importers of Chinese Tin
