The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office,
LONDON, S. W. 1.
In further reference to your letter of the 30th July regarding the question of discussions between the Hong Kong Government Analyst, Mr. V. C. Branson, and ourselves, we beg to advise you of the present position.
Mr. Branson has during the intervening weeks visited us on three separate occasions, practically the whole of each day being devoted to discussions on the various points arising, the handling of the Tin at Hong Kong and at this end and studying its possible bearing on the difficulties which have ariser.
In addition Mr. Branson has accompanied us on a visit to the warehouses where the Tin is sampled and has inspected the work done by the wharfingers who act under the authority of the London Metal Exchange.
Beyond the foregoing Mr. Branson has exchanged views with us on the question of analysis and has studied our methods in our Laboratories. He is fully conversant now with all that happens in London in connection with the Tin, and has advised us fully of what occurs in Hong Kong.
It is to be hoped that the result of all this careful examination of the whole matter will bring about an improvement in the general position causing such difficulties as have occurred in the past to be impossible.
We understand that, in due course, r. Branson will issue his report in detail on all that has taken place and on the conclusions he has drawn therefrom.
We are, Dear Sir,
Yours faithfully,
Daniel CGriffith
