I have the honour to enclose a copy of a letter

which we have received from the Government of Hong Kong

regarding the recruitment of six Police Constables and to

enquire whether the Secretary of State approves of our

filling these vacancies in conjunction with Mr. T. H. King,

Acting Inspector General. If so, we propose to select

candidates without previous Colonial service, unless there

are any retrenched Officers other than those mentioned in

your semi-official letter of the 29th September, 1933,

whom you wish us to consider.
