Messrs. Kalis Sons and Company's tender is subject to
certain stipulations, the substance of which were included
in our telegram.
4. We also enclose a copy of a letter dated
15th December from Messrs. Kalis Sons and Company, together
with a schedule of plant which they would propose to use.
We further enclose a copy of a letter dated 13th December
from the James Dredging Towage and Transport Co.Ltd., with
a description and photographs of the plant they would
propose to employ if called upon to do the work.

this equipment.

5. We enclose copies of letters dated 30th November
and the 15th December, which we have received from the
Tilbury Contracting and Dredging Co.Ltd., wherein they
state that they would have liked to submit a tender for the
work, but they felt that they were not justified in tendering
for work of such importance without sending a representative
to the site to examine local conditions. We think it is
unfortunate that it has not been possible to obtain a
tender from this Company, who are a very experienced firm
of dredging contractors. We enclose a copy of our reply
of to-day's date.

Owing to the very large number of corrections in
the text of the contract documents which you sent us, we
thought it desirable to have clean copies printed; the
cost of so doing amounted to £5.17.6. In addition to the
copies of the tenders enclosed, we are also sending you four
clean copies of the contract documents.
7.
We are forwarding a copy of this letter to the
Colonial Office for the information of the Secretary of State
