Brack

Acting Consul General Canton reports that Brack who

arrived at Canton May 12th showed a type-written document

marked "list of goods as offered by Defence Department to Mr. Brack for export" and also voucher issued by Defence

Department for samples he had brought to Hongkong.

stated that he had been asked by Australian Secretary for Defence to dispose of arms and ammunition in Canton and that

proceeds of sale were to be used for relief of unemployment When Acting Consul General informed him of contents of

telegram under reference he added that he had never

represented himself as an agent of Australian government but

that his isit was with full knowledge and consent of Minister of Defence, Chief of Staff and Attomey General. He said he was proceeding to Hongkong immediately and would

cable to Chief of Staff.

give him no support until matter has been cleared up.
