year of service subject to a deduction in respect of
any leave granted during the term of the engagement
other than sick leave, and in addition if the person
engaged returns to England immediately on the
termination of the engagement, leave with half salary
for the period of the voyage. Should the Consulting
Engineers take advantage of the presence of the
engaged person on leave in England to confer with him,
they will advise the Government of what extra leave
allowance should be granted.
We should also like a clause similar to
Clause 10 of our alternative draft inserted in the Agreement.
If advantage is taken of leave in England as referred to in
Clause 12 as modified, it is probable that there would be
no necessity to exercise the provisions of Clause 10 above
mentioned.
As an alternative to the somewhat extensive
modifications we have suggested in your draft, we enclose
in duplicate a draft which essentially follows the lines of
the Agreement under which Mr. Hull was engaged for the
Singapore work it will be noticed that this more definitely
