Letter from the Admiralty to the Secretary,

Imperial Communications Committee.

With reference to conclusion (c) of item 10 f

the Minutes of the 79th Meeting of the Imperial Communications

Committee, held on the 31st May last, on the subject of

Commercial wireless services at Hong Kong, I am commanded

by My Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to state that

whilst the requirements for communications to the Far East in

time of war laid down in the report of the Sub-Committee of

the Imperial Communications Committee contained in 1.0.0.920,

are fulfilled by the existing British cables, Eust about

through Colombo and West about through Canada, They are of the

opinion that an extra line of communication between Singapore

and Hong Kong would be very desirable if Hong Kong were

actually threatened, and that, if the Hong Kong cable had been

cut by a raid, such a line would be essential.

My Lords do not consider that it would be politic in

the present state of trade, to press Imperial and International
