In all my specimens the neutral black pectorals have 3 or 4 black transverse bars basally and the caudal is with 3 or 4 dark transverse bands. The upper free pectoral ray is also quite variable, often in the same in- dividual and may reach nearly to the tip of the ventral fin.
PLATYCEPHALIDAE.
Rogadius asper (Cuvier).
Two examples, 215 to 220 mm.
Thysanophrys japonicus (Tilesius). Gnau T'sau (Cow).
Four examples, 81 to 272 mm.
CIRRHITIDAE.
Cirrhitichthys aureus (Schlegel).
"
Two examples, 112 to 114 mm. Golden yellow brown, with brown edges to scales. Iris golden brownish. Caudal peduncle yellowish pink. Caudal red. Pectoral golden yellow." These specimens are much more variegated than the figure or description by Jordan and Herre (Proc. U.S. Nat. Mus., vol. 33, 1907, p. 161, fig. 1; Misaki). The back and head above, also the dorsal fins variegated with grey in alcohol.
SIGANIDAE.
Siganus fuscescens (Houttuyn). Nai, Mang1 (Mud).
Twenty-five examples, 93 to 160 mm.
ABUDEFDFIDAE.
Amphiprion polymnus (Linnaeus). p'o, Yui (Bride fish).
Two examples, 64 to 105 mm. of Prochilus polymnus, but differ from band narrows ventrally.
Sek, Yui2 (Stone fish), Sun1
Greatly like Bleeker's two figures either in that the second transverse
Abudefduf saxatilis (Linnaeus). Sun1 p'o, Yui2.
Three examples, 112 to 135 mm.
Resembles Day's figure of
Glyphidodon caelestinus as the dark bands are all narrower than the pale
interspaces.
LABRIDAE.
Stethojulis kalosoma (Bleeker).
One example, 118 mm.
Stethojulis interrupta (Bleeker). Ho, Yui2 (Oyster fish).
One example, 126 mm. Differs a little from Bleeker's in a larger black blotch at the pectoral origin. Along side of cau11 ́l peduncle neutral dusky streak above longitudinal pale line and on caudal base. No upper pale (scarlet) line from upper eye edge to dorsal bases or along upper side of caudal peduncle.
