NANKING.

23rd March, 1931.

My dear Dr. Wang,

I am just back from a delightful cruise with

Admiral Chen and hasten to thank you for so promptly

giving me the information, conveyed by Mr. Hsu Mo

to Mr. Teichman, regarding the gentlemen selected by

the Chinese Government as members of the Purchasing

Commission to be established in London under the

Indemnity settlement.

With regard to your request for suggestions for

a British educationalist to serve as a member of the

Board of Trustees, I am now in a position to put forward

for your consideration the name of Sir William Hornell,

Vice-Chancellor of Hong Kong University, who would, I

venture to think, be an admirable choice.

You will no doubt have seen in the papers the sad

news of Sir Charles Eliot's sudden death on his way home.

(Sa) MILES W. LAMPSON.
