travelling on board as passengers assisted by five members of the crew attacked the ship, overpowered the 2nd Officer and Quartermaster on watch on the bridge and later the master who was asleep in his cabin and then bound and secured then to an iron support on the bridge, the crew with the exception of the Quartersmaster at the wheel and the engine room staff were then driven to the crews quarters in the forecastle. The pirates who were armed with

revolvers and knives then ransacked the cabins of the officers, passengers and compradore staff and ordered the ship to be steered in the direction of Sam Long Island situated about 30 miles South-West of Macao.

At about 06.00 hours on the 11th December the master was released to navigate the ship and at about 07.00 hours anchor was dropped about 1 miles north of Sam Long Island. At about 10.00 hours same day, orders were given for the ship to be taken to a bay on the east coast of Kau Lan Island, 1 miles west of Sam Long, position Lat:21.54 Long: 113.16. Having dropped anchor three or four sampans went alongside and took off the loot and as the pirates were about to leave the ship some 50 odd sampans which had being lying near the shore went alongside the ship from which 200 odd men boarded the ship, these men instituted another search of the cabins and passengers and crew and also started to work cargo fran No. 2 and 3 holds, damage to the amount of about $200.00 was done to the cabins, doors

and fitting being broken.

At about noon all the pirates left hurriedly say- ing that a launch had been sighted. As soon as they left the master got up anclior and got under way for Hong Kong and when passing Gap Rock a flag signal was run up telling

the "Lookout" of the occurrence. The ship arrived in
